This file corresponds to the datafile "Smearing Method OF_TP.csv", for the total phosphorus (TP) load calculation for the outlet of Fernan Lake from April 2014 to April 2015 The location is referred to as OF or Outflow Location of sampling site: Longitude: 522846.5 Latitude: 5279425.8 "Coordinates are in UTMs, NAD 1983" "Due to the seasonal changes with the addition of the Dam, the smearing method was only applied for days that the dam was not in place." "** For the days where the dam was in place, a linear interpolation of discharge was calculated between the bi-weekly sampling dates, the interpolated values were used for daily discharge and multiplied by the concentrations. " The values were then multiplied by 60*60*24 to gain daily loading values. "The following description is the calculation of daily loads using the non-parametric smearing method, see references below." 15 minute interval stages were converted to discharge values using the rating curve equation developed by T. LaCroix. (1) Daily loads were calculated by multiplying measured TP concentrations by the corresponding discharge values (both occurring at 15:00). (2) The natural log of daily TP loads was then plotted as a function of the natural log of discharge and a linear relationship was determined. (2) A bias-correction factor was estimated as the mean of the residuals. (2) "To estimate daily TP loading, the linear model and corresponding bias-correction factor was applied to the continuous discharge data for each site in the log transformed form:" Load=exp[b0+b1*ln(Q)]*[Σ exp(ei)/n] "Where Q is discharge (m3/s), ei are the residuals, n is the number of residuals, and b0 and b1 are site-specific fitted parameters.
